Many people find their favourite memories of being a member of Ramsoc are the weekends away. We try to go a bit further afield to places such as the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Snowdonia and get a couple of days walking in. Leaving Nottingham at about 17:00 (depending upon the distance we have to travel) we stay in Youth Hostels under a group membership for two nights before returning for about 22:00 on the Sunday. Entertainment is provided on the journey by means of quizzes and music quizzes. Weekends usually cost roughly £50 depending on the Youth Hostel charges - and include accommodation and transport (with the infamous en-route entertainment). Most Youth Hostels will also provide breakfast for a small fee. The weekends for this year are listed on the calendar and there will be more information about them nearer the time. The following information is given out to everyone who signs up for a weekend; it is duplicated on this page for your reference. Please note that the times quoted may vary (trips to the Lake District etc. tend to set off earlier due to the distance involved).

Travel times

We will be traveling by coach, leaving at 16:00/17:00 on the Friday from the bus-stop just outside Mooch. Please note that the bus may leave later to accommodate people on placements, at work or traveling from other campuses. We arrive back in Nottingham around 22:00 on the Sunday, and both journeys include a stop for something to eat (bring money for takeaway, or a Packed dinner).

Youth Hostel

We will be staying in a YHA youth hostel. Ramsoc has a group membership and so you don't personally need to be a member of the YHA. Sheet sleeping bags are provided at the hostel and so there is no need for you to bring your own bedding. You will be expected to help tidy up the hostel. No alcohol is allowed in the hostel and there will be a curfew (usually at 23:00, but please check before you leave the hostel).

Food

You will need to bring sufficient food for two breakfasts, two packed lunches and dinner on the Saturday night. Cooking facilities will be available. You can ask to be included in a food group so you don't have to cook for yourself on the saturday night; you will be asked to help clear up in return though! If you are in hall then you should be able to order a food box for the weekend - speak to your hall catering staff in advance. We will stop on both the outward and return journeys for a bite to eat.
