Sunday Walks
The staple diet of Ramsoc members usually takes the form of Sunday Walks.
These are our weekly, one day excursions to places in the sunny (not guaranteed) Peak District.
We offer a choice of at least five different walks of varying length, ascent and difficulty.
There is something for everyone, with walks varying from gentle ambles to lengthy marches
(more here).
We usually start walking at around 11:00 depending on how far we're going. There will be
at least one trained leader in each walking group, so no knowledge of navigation is necessary!
The walks are designed to last until 16:00 (later in the summer) but obviously different groups
will go at different speeds. Half an hour to have your packed lunch is always factored into the
allocated time, and more often than not there is time for a swift pint at the end.
To come on a Sunday walk you will need to have reserved a place from the SU website. Sign in with you University log in details and click 'sign up' after the description of the walk. If you do not have a University log in, or want to bring a friend, please email Kate (publicity@ramsoc.co.uk). Each Sunday walk costs £8 to be paid on the bus (£12 non-members) , usually after the walk.
The coach will pick you up in the morning (see the
coach timetable and map) between 09:00 and 10:00. Please try and be at the coach stop
a couple of minutes early so there are no delays. The coach will always stop at each point at the
designated time. Once everybody is on board we will set off. Specific information about the walks
on offer is provided on the journey and you can then decide what walk you would like to do.
Chocolate at discounted prices is also on sale during the journey!
The coach will follow the same route for dropping people off as it did in the morning when picking
up, and we always aim to get back before 18:00 so those in halls won't miss the delights
of their evening meal.
Be sure to check the suggested equipment list,
and don't forget your packed lunch! For those in halls, it may be possible to order a packed
lunch if you ask the kitchen staff well enough in advance. They don't have any obligation to give
you one so be polite about it, but more often than not they will be more than happy to help.
