Socials

Dates for all the socials can be found on the calendar. You can also find out about some of the more prominent events in the Ramsoc social calendar below:

The ADM meal.

Annual Dinner Meet

The Annual Dinner Meet (ADM) is the final weekend before the Easter holidays, and it is traditionally the last weekend before a new committee is elected. It takes the form of your average Ramsoc weekend away, until Saturday night…

Then you are promised a super four course meal at a hotel, entertainment from the outgoing committee (previous scripts), plenty of drinks, a cheesy disco, a very late night and then back to a good tough walk the next day!

Summer Barbeque

The summer barbeque is held near at the end of the summer term, and is generally the last official Ramsoc social of the year.

Cake and Ale

Cakes at the Cake and Ale Night. The Ramsoc Cake and Ale evening consists of a two things Ramsoc members like doing best: eating cake and drinking ale. The evening usually takes place at the Plough pub in Radford, and involves a cake-baking competition in addition to the drinking of ale. There are a variety of categories, and following some controversy and confusion in previous years, rules were clarified by Richard Catton. You can read them here (PDF).

Christmas Meal

The Christmas meal. This is usually held in a lovely Nottingham city centre hotel. You will receive a five course meal, followed by a disco in the hotel. This does not include alcohol, but a bar is provided. You will have to provide your own transport there and back. The dress code is formal. The Christmas Meal has traditionally been one of the highlights of the Ramsoc year and is the perfect way to meet up with everyone before the Christmas break.

Progressive Meal

The Progressive Meal is probably Ramsoc's most popular event of the term. It is very complex to organise, but a lot of fun for everyone who takes part. It's also a great way to meet a lot of people, so if you haven't been along to anything and want to get to know some people then this is the event to do it at.
The Progressive meal.
It involves a four-course meal: Starter, Main Course, Dessert and Coffee & Mints. However, each course of your meal is to be found at a different location (on or off campus) and you have to walk between them. There is no need to worry about being on your own, not only are their six people at each course, but at the end of the meal you are paired up (probably with someone of the opposite sex!) and given the address of your next course which the pair of you then have to get to.
At the end of your next course, you will be paired up with someone else before racing off to find the next stage in your meal. After Coffee & Mints, everyone meets at Mooch and then goes on to ISIS. The only catch is that someone has to make the courses; otherwise the event can't happen. Even if you can't cook at all, it can be great fun trying and it really doesn't matter what you make because we're all much too polite to complain! If you do provide a course, Ramsoc will reimburse you. However, we do limit the cost; so don't go over the top with the smoked salmon and caviar! Hosts for Coffee & Mints will receive the mints courtesy of Ramsoc, and those providing main courses will have wine delivered to their house nearer to the time.

Punch Party

The Punch Party is the traditional start to the Ramsoc year - in which members new and old get the opportunity to meet the year's committee and each other. It's also an opportunity for you to sign up for the first weekend away of the year - so that you can get into the swing of things early. The last Punch Party featured a flashy AV presentation and a frightening striptease, and whilst we won't promise that every year, we will promise lashings of free punch…

The Punch Party and sign-up for the first weekend of the year will take place somewhere in the Portland Building. Check the calendar and your emails at the start of the first term for the latest information.
