The University of Nottingham Archery Club members have a fantastic social life in and around their training and competition schedule; there are events to suit all types and a welcoming atmosphere that goes with the lot. Competition socials form a great part of the club’s calendar, and they’re a really fantastic chance to meet and get to know people with a similar mindset from different universities. Friendships and rivalries blossom as the biggest tournament of the year continues to draw anxious crowds … Yes, if you think you’re boat-race-champion material, the traditional drinking competition is always good fun and ever receptive to new joiners. In preparation for the boat race (it has a highly adorable and covetable little trophy) we hold a weekly pub social in Nottingham, which always proves to be a source of a good many giggles.
Throughout the year, Archery socials run from bowling to bar crawls, cinema trips to competitions, pool playing to puddings. Great social events from yesteryear include; laser quest (a return trip may be necessary to overcome the humiliation of being outscored by nine-year-olds the last time), the Great Archery Barbeque (an annual summer event), and the infamous Campus 14. If there’s anything you fancy doing, or if you come up with an idea for a social, just let our Social Sec know.
(We promise she won’t bite. )
Wednesday night is the fantastic Pub Quiz, read out by one of our own, at the White Hart public house in Lenton. It’s extremely good fun and a great way to have a laugh with each other (and we usually win more than we lose!). If a pub quiz isn’t your thing, don’t worry! Throughout the year we host a range of activities from bowling to ice skating as well as various trips to the cinema for screenings of the latest films. Many of the socials will try to be arranged for Sunday afternoons or Wednesday evenings after training sessions. We aim to give you all a good relaxing time before that next lecture. So no matter what your weekly plans are it should be possible for you to come along.
The tournaments that we participate in (especially BUTTS) all have amazing socials after them. When at a BUTTS tournament, the highlight is normally the 'Boat Race’, so this year we’ll be looking into finding a new team for the start of the season so we can hold onto the hugely coveted title of ‘BUTTS Boat Race Champions’. It really is a bundle of laughs.
