Welcome to the Amnesty International Society at Nottingham website!
Concerned about human rights? Affiliated to Amnesty International UK, we aim to raise awareness about relevant issues through weekly letter writing campaigns, stalls, fundraising events, conferences and guest speakers.
The links on the left provide information and pictures about what Amnesty does and how we do it, and the column on the right lists our upcoming events :)

Guantanamo Protest in Nottingham Town Centre
1st March 2007
Amnesty Society will be holding a protest against the continuing imprisonment of detainees at Guantanamo Bay, which passed its 5th anniversary last month. We will be making some noise in Nottingham town centre on 10th March 2007 between 12pm and 2pm, wearing orange jump suits like the prisoners have to and letting the people of Nottingham know that 5 years is too long for anyone to be detained without trial, no matter what crime they are suspected of. If you would like to join us, or find out more information, please enter your e-mail address in the space above and we will send you details!
We also have a Facebook group here: http://nottinghamac.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2239734644
One World Week
20 November 2006
Amnesty Soc raised about £200 for Amnesty International from our Open Mic Night, and Amnesty also ran a Control Arms Stall to get photos for the 1 million faces petition, which are now visible on the control arms site.
Protect the Human Week
28 October 2006
Amnesty Soc raised almost £500 for Amnesty International! Have a look at some pictures of the events on the photo gallery.
Weekly Meeting Location
21 September 2006
Please be aware that we were unable to book a consistent room to hold the weekly meetings in. We plan to have them on Thursday every week from 1-2pm, however they will be in different rooms. If you are unsure of the room that the meeting will be in, you can find it on the right, in the new upcoming meetings/events planner.
New Website Design
20 September 2006
The old site was unnecessarily complicated and did not meet the university's new website standards concerning commenting without logging in and such. So, here's a new design for the new university year!
Sadly this means that there will be no commenting on articles, and also no RSS feed since I don't have the time to program it. Most people don't use RSS anyway, so to get updated pictures and possibly news out to people without having to check the website too often, it is planned to primarily use a Facebook group instead. A new photo gallery on this site will include pictures of past Amnesty events and some Amnesty-related pictures saved for posterity.
This year, the site will not include the urgent actions that Amnesty Soc has written to during meetings. This is because it is better that Amnesty's website is used anyway, since Amnesty provides the most up-to-date information about the status of individual urgent actions. Obviously there's no point writing to an urgent action that is already resolved!
